Most of us have been to job interviews where you bring your résumé - your list of positive qualities and accomplishments - essentially your justification as to why you should get the job. If your résumé is good enough, you might get the job.

A sad reality is many people approach life as if every day is a job interview trying prove ourselves to ourselves, to others, and even to God.  Author Donald Miller said we live like we are in a Life Raft designed for 15 but with 16 people in it and someone’s gotta go - so we live determined to prove that we deserve to stay.  We keep updating an internal resume of our accomplishments and good qualities.  Together these things make up our sense of righteousness - our justification for existing.  It's exhausting.

The Big G Good News is that there is a perfect righteousness we have not earned that God will freely give to us. He will allow us to trade in our insufficient résumé and receive a perfect résumé: the one that belongs to Jesus. We can either stand before God with ours or with His. We can either put our faith in what we have done, or we can put our faith in what He has done and live from that freedom!
